U.S. Utilities Transformation Study finds 93% of utilities are already using AI in transformation projects – putting data quality and cloud readiness at the center of the next phase of SAP transformation.

According to the new U.S. Utilities Transformation Study 2026, conducted by Natuvion together with Cognizant, nearly 58% of utilities surveyed report using more cloud services than before, up from 50% in the 2023 benchmark. At the same time, 93% either incorporated AI into their transformation process or factored future AI adoption into their transformation decisions.
But as cloud and AI become increasingly central to utility transformation, the data underneath them remains a challenge. Approximately 40% of utilities surveyed identify poor data quality as a key transformation challenge, highlighting the gap between adopting new technologies and having the data foundation needed to get the most from them.
