Partnering with NDBS, Natuvion leveraged its expertise and powerful tools to carve out the SAP data of Tricon Wear Solutions, a former subsidiary of Madison Industries that had been acquired by Construction Forms Inc. Natuvion was able to complete and hand over the project earlier than scheduled, impressing all the companies involved.
In the wake of a divestment initiative, it can be a challenge to separate and remove data about the subsidiary to be acquired from its parent company’s SAP systems. This was why Construction Forms Inc. engaged NTT Data Business Solutions (NDBS), which in turn approached Natuvion for assistance with the carve-out, deletion, and cutover portion of the project. The goal was to enable NDBS to create an operative SAP system landscape that only comprised Tricon data.
Natuvion was also tasked with ensuring that no data from non-Tricon company codes found its way into the new system. A further element in the challenge was that the deletion needed to be completed within 13.5 hours and the go-live in less than a weekend. Construction Forms required that the new system would be ready for use on the following Monday morning with no impact on business continuity. Madison, Tricon, and Construction Forms all needed to adhere to the stipulations of the transition services agreement (TSA) related to the acquisition.
Natuvion started by working closely with the companies concerned to ensure that the project would run smoothly. Natuvion specialists spent the first month planning the project down to the last detail and carrying out the setup activities, followed by running mocks the next two months. The goal of these preparations was to provide a highly detailed data deletion logic and get it approved by all parties.
The source system at Madison Industries was ECC 6.0 Suite-on-HANA along with the FI/CO, MM, SD, PP, and WM modules. NDBS created an ECC 6.0 Suite-on-HANA sandbox as a copy of the production system and the Natuvion specialists deleted Madison’s non-Tricon-related data from this sandbox system.
This was done using the Natuvion Data Conversion Suite (DCS) and resulted in a system containing exclusively Tricon information.
Specialists from Madison, Tricon and NDBS then checked the resulting system thoroughly to eliminate any risk of over- or under-deletion. Jackie Easterling, NDBS Project Manager, notes: “The accuracy of the data rules and deletion was phenomenal. We were really impressed!“ This sentiment was echoed by Kevin Griffin, Financial Planning and Analysis Manager at Tricon Wear Solutions.
In a message to the Natuvion/NDBS team, he said: “Really appreciate everybody’s support and work over these last four or five months. Great work.” There were two mock data deletion phases to iron out any glitches, as well as a dress rehearsal followed by the final go-live. Madison’s Mark Button adds: “The Natuvion/NDBS team’s expertise and dedication have ensured a smooth transition for Tricon. The Mock 0 phase was already 99 % accurate on data transfer.” Interestingly, Natuvion DCS also enabled Madison to detect some “orphaned” data left behind in its systems following some of its previous divestment projects.
Natuvion DCS is Natuvion’s flagship product that it uses in all its data and system transformation projects worldwide. It was designed from the outset to handle large data volumes and is highly automated, dramatically accelerating most transformation tasks.
Natuvion completed the data deletion activities within 13.5 hours – much faster than the usual time allotted for this type of project. Natuvion processed 113,620 tables and deleted 538,520,967 records. The go-live was set for a weekend, with the cutover to be finalized by 18h45 on Saturday.
The overall project efficiency and excellent collaboration with Madison, Tricon, and Construction Forms, along with NDBS, enabled Natuvion to complete the cutover and hand over the finished project much earlier than planned, at 11h00 on Saturday.
Brandon Evans, NDBS VP of Customer Transformation, comments: “This has been one of the most seamless and quiet cutovers and go-lives that I’ve been a part of in quite a few years. Kudos to the Natuvion team.”
To sum up, Joanne Lang, CEO, and co-founder of Natuvion’s US operation, believes that great collaboration was very important. “A key success factor for the project was the excellent communication with, and sponsorship from, Tricon Wear Solutions, Construction Forms, and Madison. Kevin Griffin from Tricon Wear Solutions in particular provided unfailing, hands-on support and participation in the project."
The resulting system was used by NDBS to create Construction Forms’ development, quality, and production systems.
