Radio Frequency Systems sends massive data volumes into retirement!

Radio Frequency Systems sends massive data volumes into retirement!

In an exciting and challenging project, the DCS Retire tool was successfully implemented for our customer Radio Frequency Systems GmbH (RFS). Gerrit Weingartner shares insights into the project’s progress and results.

RFS is a leading manufacturer of cable solutions for high-frequency and data transmission technologies in communication networks. The goal of the project was to transfer relevant data from an old SAP ERP system into a DCS Retire instance, enabling both business departments and auditors to easily access and analyze historical information.

Project Implementation in Detail

The project began with the selection of a pragmatic approach for defining the data extraction scope. The team decided to unload all tables from the source system, with the exception of system tables and those containing only temporary data. We carried out data extraction using the proven DCS Migrate tool.

The team paid particular attention to maintaining data integrity throughout the extraction and loading process. Hash values were generated and compared to ensure that the transferred data would be transferred to the DCS Retire instance in exactly the same form. The SAP tables were first exported as SQL files and copied to an SFTP server before being transferred into the DCS Retire environment. In total, over 8,000 tables were successfully migrated.

In addition to the data migration, we implemented comprehensive access control. The team designed a flexible authorization concept to restrict access to either a specific company code or across all company codes—similar to client separation in SAP systems. Furthermore, documents from the optical archive were transferred and linked to their corresponding records. One benefit of this is that invoices can be displayed directly within DCS Retire

Query Views and Functionality

As part of the project, we developed and adapted custom query views. These views replicate essential SAP transactions such as:

  • F.01: Display of general ledger account balances
  • FBL5N: Customer open items
  • FBL3N: G/L account open items (including drilldown to accounts and offsetting entries)
  • FBL1N: Vendor open items (with queries by any key date or by displaying all documents within a selected period)

These capabilities ensure that business users and auditors can access all relevant data directly and intuitively.

Successful Project Acceptance

Following the data transfer, RFS conducted extensive testing. Through several iterations, we fine-tuned the query views to fully meet the customer’s requirements. After successful testing and approval, the system was officially handed over to RFS.

This implementation clearly demonstrates that DCS Retire. is a powerful solution that not only meets business users’ needs but also fully complies with the strict requirements of audit processes.

The project serves as another notable example of how modern technology and a structured approach can enable the successful execution of complex data migration initiatives.
