Shoring meets data protection: security for your transformation

Kubota managed to carry out a test migration cost-effectively while still complying with data protection regulations. Kai Szatkowski reports on how the company achieved this with DCS Migrate and DCS Protect

Like many other SAP customers, Kubota is currently in the process of transforming its systems to SAP S/4HANA. In addition to the pure technology changeover, the company is also making content adjustments. Every transformation project generally involves a large number of intensive test phases. This is independent of the approach chosen. Whether brownfield/system conversion, greenfield/new implementation, or allfield/selective data transition, functional testing accounts for a significant portion of the project budget. There are several approaches to minimizing this portion and thus reducing costs.

Cost reduction through near- or off-shoring

In addition to automating many test scenarios using DCS Migrate and the technical testing options it offers, costs can be further reduced through near- or off-shoring. For many companies that already operate internationally, this approach is a natural choice. However, data protection is a sensitive issue here. Testers and migration consultants typically have extended permissions and use powerful tools at the database level, giving them access to sensitive data.

Security with DCS Protect

To protect personal data in accordance with the GDPR and other sensitive data, such as trade secrets, these test migrations can be carried out using depersonalized data. This is where DCS Protect from the Natuvion Data Conversion Suite comes into play. DCS Protect safeguards entire SAP and non-SAP test system landscapes during regular operation with consistent depersonalization – even across system boundaries. When used in test migrations, it enables the data protection-compliant deployment of shoring staff for extensive functional testing. Only the dress rehearsal and the subsequent go-live take place with real data. Test phases can certainly be seen as a separate project within the overall project. DCS Migrate and DCS Protect ensure the compliant use of shoring employees. Sensitive data is protected in every test phase, yet the costs for the overall project are still optimized. The two Natuvion tools offer the perfect combination for successful transformation projects.
