With the end of maintenance for SAP Business Suite 7 approaching, the Volkswagen Group has decided to expedite the transformation of its systems to SAP S/4HANA. Support is being provided by the Natuvion transformation experts, who are available to the Group as a central competence partner with their transformation software solutions and expertise in all aspects of SAP S/4HANA migration.

In total, the migration covers all SAP Business Suite 7 systems used within the Volkswagen Group. Using our expertise, we are helping with the migration as well as with the strategic and content-related transformation preparation. This includes analyzing existing systems and data pools, strategy planning, data migration, and the automated conversion of Volkswagen's proprietary developments. The goal is to conduct the migration in a timely, flexible, and resource-efficient manner. Natuvion is utilizing its Natuvion Data Conversion Server (DCS) transformation platform to achieve this. Natuvion DCS enables all migration scenarios, from greenfield and brownfield to selective data transition (SDT). Additionally, Natuvion is providing training to Volkswagen Group's internal SAP S/4HANA Transformation Factory team and supporting them with internationally experienced transformation experts, with its own staff as well as via a well-trained partner network.

"We are truly proud to accompany this major transformation project at the Volkswagen Group,” explains Patric Dahse, Founder and CEO of Natuvion. “There are few comparable transformation projects worldwide. We are especially pleased to be supporting Volkswagen's team with our expertise gained from numerous other large-scale transformations. Natuvion not only impressed Volkswagen with its extensive experience, but also with its internally developed transformation strategies and tools, which make a project of this magnitude possible. All this enables us to provide crucial support to the Volkswagen Group in terms of timeframe, budget, necessary resources, and, of course, implementation."

"With the in-house SAP S/4HANA Transformation Factory, we are establishing much more than just a transformation task force,” adds Joachim Markus, Department Head of SAP Group xDomain Architecture & Platform at Volkswagen, describing the collaboration. “Rather, this is a strategic corporate unit that is acquiring the knowledge and capability to shape and implement the scope of the SAP S/4HANA transformation over the space of several years – including the coordination of already-planned parallel projects. We need a mix of the development of internal expertise and the experience of external specialists like Natuvion to prepare us for the significant tasks ahead and to future-proof ourselves in the ERP domain.”

      The Transformation Factory approach

Faster, more effective and more cost-effective - the Transformation Factory approach is a strategic method that helps companies to organize their SAP S/4HANA transformation as efficiently as possible. Proven methods, tools and best practices are used to ensure a standardized way of working throughout the entire transformation process. This enables companies to accelerate and parallelize their conversion projects, minimize risks and reduce overall costs. Another key advantage of the approach is its scalability and repeatability. This enables companies to extend best practices to different business areas and locations, deploy resources efficiently and seamlessly achieve the benefits of migrating to SAP S/4HANA for the entire company.

The pilot project for a template rollout program, launched at one of the Volkswagen sites in summer 2023, also follows this principle. The Volkswagen and Natuvion teams are currently working together on the basic structures of this template, both for the set-up of the new SAP S/4HANA system and for the corresponding data migration procedure. Following the successful go-live, the system set-up and migration procedure will be rolled out to a further 17 countries. To this end, Volkswagen Group employees will be trained in such a way that they will be able to carry out the entire migration in the other countries independently in the medium term.

In addition, further programs and projects at the Volkswagen Group are already in the onboarding phase and pipeline.
