Objective
As part of the strategic expansion of its service portfolio in the field of electromobility, AMAG Group AG acquired the Helion business unit from Bouygues E&S InTec Schweiz AG in 2022. Helion specializes in photovoltaics, heat pumps, and e-mobility solutions. With this acquisition, AMAG aimed to fully integrate the new business unit into its organization and establish an end-to-end, company-wide view of processes and data.
To achieve this, all contractually defined business data as well as approximately 450 employees were to be transferred into the newly established AMAG Energy & Mobility division from a system perspective. A core component of the initiative was the integration of the acquired entity into AMAG’s already productive SAP S/4HANA system as an independent company, while ensuring the complete preservation of historical data.

Detailed project overview
Before the Carve-In Comes the Carve-Out
The integration presented significant functional and technical challenges. The relevant data first had to be carved out of Bouygues’ existing IT system before being transferred into AMAG’s established system landscape. Specifically, the carve-out involved a company code with defined profit centers, including the complete set of historical documents. Precisely defined selection criteria for documents had to be applied, structural data adjustments and renaming activities carried out, and required reconciliation postings executed.
Only after this precise extraction of the relevant data could the actual carve-in into AMAG’s SAP S/4HANA system take place. Additional complexity arose from the interaction of various SAP modules, the need to ensure data consistency, and the correct linkage of archived documents with active migration documents. At the same time, the entire project was subject to considerable time pressure: only eight months elapsed between the signing of the contract and the system-side implementation of the acquisition.
Ready, Steady, Go – Reaching SAP S/4HANA in Three Steps
To execute the project in a structured manner, a clearly defined migration approach was chosen, consisting of three test migrations, a full dress rehearsal, and the final go-live. The repeated test cycles enabled issues to be identified early and resolved systematically.
From a technical perspective, the migration was supported by SAP BAPI functionalities. These made it possible to handle data and processes as business objects and to break down the migrating business unit into clearly separated entities. As a result, the complexity of the migration was significantly reduced and the structure of the data transfer was improved.
The Natuvion Data Conversion Suite (DCS) also played a central role. As a powerful ETL platform, the Natuvion DCS handled the extraction of data from the source system, its transformation into the target structures, and the subsequent import into AMAG’s SAP S/4HANA system. In addition, the Natuvion DCS enabled upstream data analysis as well as validation of the migrated data after import. By automating selected project steps, efficiency was further increased and the ambitious project timeline successfully maintained.
Successful Go-Live on the AMAG SAP S/4HANA System
Despite the high technical complexity and tight timeline, the Helion business unit was successfully and on schedule integrated into AMAG’s productive SAP S/4HANA system. The new entity is now represented there as an independent company and is fully integrated into the existing system and process landscape.
The structured project approach, the targeted use of standardized SAP technologies, and the support provided by the Natuvion DCS transformation software formed the foundation for a smooth go-live.
With the successful implementation of the carve-in project, not only was the basis established for the integrated management of the new business unit, but an important milestone was also achieved toward the further harmonization of the SAP landscape. The next step, as part of the SAP landscape consolidation initiative, is the integration of the SAP ECC PR1 system into the existing SAP S/4HANA environment.
