Identical systems and complex data dependencies
The initial situation was characterized by a particularly high level of complexity: Following the organizational separation, two nearly identical but physically separated SAP systems continued to contain the combined data sets of both companies. The objective was to retain only the relevant company-specific data within each system while ensuring the complete and consistent removal of all obsolete information.
This selective data deletion required close coordination among multiple stakeholders and a high degree of technical precision. At the same time, business continuity had to be maintained and future costs associated with unnecessary data retention needed to be avoided. The ambitious project timeline, combined with stringent requirements regarding data quality and consistency, further increased the complexity of the initiative.
Efficient system carve-out with DCS Migrate and DCS Analyze
To execute the carve-out, Natuvion leveraged its solutions DCS Migrate and DCS Analyze, enabling the precise identification, analysis, and selective removal of relevant data. Following a comprehensive assessment of the existing SAP ECC system, master and transactional data targeted for removal were systematically identified.
DCS Analyze primarily supported the analysis of the system landscape and the automation of validation processes, while DCS Migrate was used for the actual data transformation and deletion activities. By utilizing integrated carve-out templates, the overall process could be standardized and significantly accelerated.
A key advantage of the approach was that the copy-and-delete scenario was executed exclusively within the test environment, while the final data deletion was performed directly in the productive system. In total, 18 company codes and 46 plants were included in scope, resulting in a significant reduction of the overall data volume. Through close collaboration within the project team and iterative testing cycles, consistently high data quality was ensured throughout the project.
Successful carve-out with minimal downtime
By combining specialized tools with a structured project methodology, the SAP system carve-out at Duopharma was successfully completed within the defined timeline and budget. Optimized testing cycles even enabled a reduction in the overall project duration while ensuring that all predefined milestones were achieved.
The result is a clearly separated and highly consistent data landscape for both companies. System downtime was reduced to an absolute minimum, allowing business operations to continue with virtually no disruption. In addition, the streamlined system environment now provides a stable foundation for future IT transformation initiatives and further optimization projects.
