Objective
GM3 sought to align its SAP S/4HANA landscape with the requirements of a globally operating mining company. The objective was to establish a robust, compliant, and audit-ready foundation for financial processes, reporting structures, and governance requirements.
Following the initial SAP S/4HANA go-live, GM3 encountered significant challenges. An incorrect fiscal year configuration and the absence of document splitting negatively impacted financial processes, reporting accuracy, and compliance. Together with Customer360, Natuvion developed a transformation program to remediate the productive SAP S/4HANA environment and ensure its long-term operational and reporting readiness.

Detailed project overview
Realigning SAP S/4HANA after go-live
Following the SAP S/4HANA implementation, two major configuration issues were identified that had a significant impact on reporting, financial operations, and compliance.
First, the fiscal year was configured from July to June, while GM3’s reporting requirements were based on a calendar year running from January to December. Correcting this structure within a productive SAP S/4HANA environment required modifications across hundreds of interdependent database tables, as well as the reorganization and relabeling of historical financial data.
Second, SAP Document Splitting had not been activated during the implementation. As a result, the organization lacked the transparency required for financial reporting by site, profit center, and business unit. Retrospectively enabling this core SAP Finance capability is considered one of the most complex corrective measures in a live SAP environment.
Transforming financial data and system structures
Natuvion and Customer360 designed and executed a structured transformation program to address both challenges. The project was delivered entirely within the productive SAP S/4HANA environment without interrupting ongoing mining operations.
To realign the fiscal year structure, Natuvion deployed the Natuvion Data Conversion Suite (DCS). Through automated analysis, migration, and transformation processes, more than 400 SAP database tables were adjusted and historical financial data was reclassified to support the new reporting structure.
In parallel, Customer360 activated SAP Document Splitting. Existing financial postings were reviewed, corrected, and aligned with the revised reporting requirements. Comprehensive end-to-end testing ensured that all financial processes functioned correctly following the transformation.
Consistent financial data for reporting and compliance
By combining the fiscal year realignment with the activation of document splitting, GM3 established a consistent and audit-ready financial data foundation. Historical financial data was successfully harmonized with the new structure, enabling the company to meet its reporting and governance requirements with confidence.
The transformation was completed on schedule and within budget. Throughout the project, both the productive SAP S/4HANA environment and ongoing mining operations remained fully stable, with no unplanned business disruption.
These types of transformations are rarely straightforward. They demand deep technical expertise, careful planning, and a clear understanding of financial integrity within S/4HANA. This was a true team effort, with everyone aligned to bring the solution home.
