Complex data migration under tight time constraints
The migration project presented SENEC with several major challenges. On the one hand, large volumes of accounting-related data had to be extracted from the powercloud platform and integrated into EnBW’s SAP system landscape. On the other hand, the data structures of both systems needed to be aligned to ensure a seamless and error-free transfer.
The compressed timeline of only three months further increased the pressure on all project stakeholders. Close coordination and precise planning between SENEC, EnBW, and Natuvion were therefore essential. Any errors in the data transfer could have had a direct impact on accounting processes and therefore had to be avoided at all costs.
The key to success: a structured approach
To ensure the successful execution of the migration, Natuvion applied a structured ETL-based methodology. In the first step, all migration-relevant data was identified, selected, and extracted from the powercloud platform. The data was then transformed and adapted to meet the requirements of EnBW’s SAP FI-CA system. In the final step, the data was imported into the target system and comprehensively validated.
This process was supported by DCS Migrate, which automated the extraction, transformation, and validation of the data. Through this high degree of automation, many manual activities could be eliminated, significantly increasing overall efficiency.
The migration was executed within a single migration cycle, consisting of a test run, a dress rehearsal, and the final go-live. This approach enabled potential issues to be identified and resolved at an early stage, ensuring a smooth transition into production.
Seamless migration from powercloud to SAP
The migration was successfully completed within the planned project timeline. In total, approximately 400,000 payments and more than one million accounting documents were transferred from the powercloud platform into EnBW’s SAP FI-CA system.
As a result of the successful integration, SENEC now benefits from standardized and more efficient accounting processes within the EnBW system landscape. At the same time, customer service quality has been significantly improved.
The project demonstrates that even highly complex data migrations can be successfully executed under significant time pressure when supported by structured methodologies and the right technology solutions.
