Complex system landscape and high transformation requirements
Over the years, Vattenfall’s SAP system landscape had evolved into a highly complex environment. Diverse systems, varying data structures, and country-specific requirements significantly increased the complexity of the consolidation effort.
At the same time, several demanding transformation tasks had to be carried out in parallel. These included the separation of SAP IS-U from the Dutch ERP system, the carve-out of SAP HCM, as well as the cleansing and carve-out of company codes within the German system landscape. Ensuring data quality and consistency throughout the process was essential to avoid delays and additional project costs. As a result, meticulous planning and a structured project approach were critical to the success of the transformation.
Structured system consolidation with proven methods and tools
To execute the system consolidation, Natuvion designed a clearly structured project plan implemented across multiple phases. The initial phase focused on extensive preparation and migration activities within the German and Dutch system landscapes. Subsequently, the consolidated Dutch ERP system was integrated into the Swedish SAP landscape. In a later phase, the German ERP system consolidation was completed.
For the technical implementation, Natuvion leveraged the Natuvion Data Conversion Suite (DCS), a specialized toolset designed to support complex SAP transformations. The solution enabled precise data migration, system cleansing, and continuous quality assurance throughout the entire transformation process. Integrated monitoring and analysis mechanisms ensured full transparency and traceability of all system changes at any stage of the project.
Reduced complexity and an ideal foundation for SAP S/4HANA
Through the successful consolidation of its SAP system landscape, Vattenfall significantly reduced the complexity of its IT environment while simultaneously lowering operational costs. The harmonized system landscape now provides a stable foundation for the next phase of the transformation toward a centralized international ERP platform.
Thanks to the structured project approach and comprehensive quality assurance measures, all project milestones were achieved on schedule. Vattenfall is now ideally positioned for the subsequent migration to SAP S/4HANA and can continue its transformation journey efficiently and with minimized risk.
