Because fiscal year configuration affects multiple SAP modules, the project required careful analysis, testing, and execution to avoid inconsistencies across finance, controlling, logistics, asset accounting, reporting, and historical transactional data.
Florida Crystals followed a two-step approach to align the impacted company codes with the enterprise fiscal calendar.
The first step introduced a shortened fiscal year for the relevant fiscal year variant and assigned company codes. This change needed to be applied consistently across all SAP modules in use, including FI, FI-AA, FI-SL, IM, CO, EC-PCA, MM, PP, SD, PS, and PM.
Before configuration changes were made, the project team completed a detailed analysis of the affected modules, organizational structures, customizing, master data, and transaction data. This analysis helped identify areas of risk and ensured that downstream business processes and reporting would continue to function correctly.
The team then completed multiple test cycles covering configuration adjustments, reporting checks, functional validation, and outcome testing before go-live.
Step 2: Execute Fiscal Year Rollback
Once the shortened fiscal year was introduced, the impacted company codes were effectively operating in a future fiscal year. As a result, the fiscal year in SAP no longer matched the actual desired calendar year.
To remove this difference, Florida Crystals executed a fiscal year conversion to realign the fiscal year numbers. The conversion reduced fiscal years, including historical fiscal years, by one year for the selected company codes. This enabled the company to bring acquisition-related company codes into alignment with the broader enterprise fiscal structure.
The fiscal year conversion was applied to selected company codes using the same fiscal year variant, rather than requiring a conversion across the entire SAP client.
Result
Florida Crystals successfully completed the fiscal year conversion without allowing the workstream to become the critical path for the broader transformation program.

By completing the fiscal year conversion ahead of plan, Florida Crystals reduced project risk, maintained momentum on its SAP RISE timeline, and established a consistent fiscal calendar foundation across the impacted S/4HANA company codes.
